What is Psychotherapy? When Does Someone Need to Go?

This question is probably one of the most asked questions I hear, and understandably so.  Most people have heard of counseling, therapy, psychotherapy and have learned about it in so many different ways, some negative and some positive.

Maybe I can help you understand it better so that if you ever consider it, you will have a clearer idea of what you are about to do.  Psychotherapy can be helpful for example, when there is a pattern of dysfunctional relationships and it just isn’t getting any better.  Many come into treatment for assistance in this area of their lives.  Others may start therapy when they find more negative thinking than positive and it seems to permeate most of their everyday lives.

People begin therapy or continue therapy when they have struggled with depression and anxiety, usually from difficult experiences they have had.  Divorce and break-ups of families is also a time I see parents and their children in treatment.  These are just a few examples I can share with you, I’m sure you know of some as well.

Psychotherapy is a personal journey, your personal journey, to find out more of who you are, what your needs are, what your strengths and problems are, and how to improve on them.  As I begin this blog I hope to shed light on how taking care of ourselves can lead to renewed energy, strength, confidence and enhanced relationships.
